Living in foster care in Maricopa County should always be a short term solution, not a child's way of life.
For a number of reasons, abused or neglected children end up in a situation where they, for their own protection, must be removed from their birth families and placed in foster care.
Now, imagine being a child left with nothing.
No mother, no father, no home. No favorite stuffed animals to hug, no familiar surroundings and no idea why everything in life has changed. There are over 5,000 children throughout Maricopa County who live with that reality... everyday.
Many children have to leave their families for their own safety. Some are victims of domestic violence. Some come from families where there is extensive drug or alcohol abuse. Some have a loved one that has become mentally unstable and unable to provide a safe home environment.
But what happens next?
Children deserve a voice- someone to look out for their best interests.
What they need is a CASA.
CASA ~ Positive Action. Powerful Results.
Maricopa County CASA is a member of the National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association. |
